When was the last time you tried learning new movement skills?
Movement gives us a subtle and rich colorful language expression. We use movement not only to express, but to feel well physically and emotionally.
Visual movement is also used by artists to direct viewers through their work. They might use shape, contrast, pattern and line to create rhythm and motion. While art might seek to create a sense of harmony, we as movers seek to find harmony in our bodies using these very same techniques. Just the way a swirling line suggests a sense of movement in art, we use line in our bodies for extension and balance. For example, in Gyrokinesis movement, contrast is applied to find openness in joints and musculature, rhythm and pattern to create fluidity, alertness and joy. The graceful flow of dance is applied inside ourselves and manifested in our physical spaces.
By moving, we are strengthening muscles, improving stability, balance, and coordination.
While, the artist might communicate to the world through paint, as movers we interact using physical motion. We are meant to move through space with grace and agility. We are born to move!
Stay tuned for Gyrokinesis and dance movement collaboration complimentary class with the featured artist (also a professional dancer).
