I’ve come to rely on this opening and beautiful portion of my Gyrokinesis practice! Admittedly, I didn’t understand exactly why I was brushing, tapping, pounding, and self-massaging in the beginning, but as my practice has grown, so has my appreciation as I’ve come into a fuller understanding of this process.

It turns out that tapping (also known as EFT or psychological acupressure) is an alternative treatment for physical and emotional distress and came into prominence in the 90s by Gary Craig. The technique works by tapping on acupressure meridians to release blockages, is believed to create balance in our energy system, and designed to calm the central nervous system.

Meridians are a network of seemingly railroad passages that pass through the body and by tapping, chi energy is moved and stagnation released. The vibration of tapping helps to open and stimulate pathways along meridian lines. To further intensify, blink eyes and breath out tension during as exhale releases and helps to further open up the body.

The drumming that we do in “awakening of the senses” in Gyrokinesis exercise sends vibration inwards and into the bones releasing stagnation. Drum the soles of the feet as well to break up nerve endings and assist balance.

Tapping has a lot in common with awakening of the senses, and both aim to achieve the release of blocked energy points and create more vibrance and stimulation to our whole body systems.
