Movement is essential to healing. Thus, the more we experience in our bodies, the greater our recovery and performance. The body’s physical language is its voice. And, through thoughtful movement, it is possible to dissolve the separation between our inner and outer experience. An outer experience meaning the physical body, and the inner experience means feeling what happens through a movement practice. Nothing can replace having this experience in your body, as movement has to be felt to be experienced.
Consider beginning your movement practice internally and then moving outwardly. This can be accomplished by a simple breath focus like allowing your breath to support your body’s skeletal structure and by following your breath as it makes its way up/down and throughout the whole body. Or, try applying the internal figure 8s of a GYROKINESIS practice. The figure eight sequence is a way of restoring balance to the body or as Juliu Horvath explains, a way of bringing the body back to itself.
The physical experience that brings about change is through movement. In this way, muscles strengthen which improves coordination, stability and balance. Without practice, the formula of experiencing movement in the body is incomplete.
